Taixing

A Community Immersed in Tea Aroma

Visit the secluded Liyuanliao Station of the Alishan Forest -Railway, and savor cuisines cooked with fresh wild mountain vegetables. Here in Taixing, visitors can always find a place to brew tea and chat with friends, be it in tea gardens, by rivers, or in front yards. This is what draws visitors to Taixing.

Taixing community used to be called Liyuanliao (literally means a hut for ploughs). featuring grass hut built for ploughs by a group of non-locals coming here to log the trees. It is where the unmanned Liyuanliao Station. The only station of the Alishan Forest Railway in Meishan Township, is located. Trains usually do not call at this station, so passengers must hail board the trains.

Due to the attitude and the climatic conditions, the tea grown here is mostly high-mountain tea varieties, especially Jinxuan Tea famed for its hint of milk flavor. Between every September and October, the valleys in Taixing, which are known as Taixing phoenix Cave, are visited by flock of cattle egrets almost every day, creating an astonishing ecological landscape.
